Summer Learning Journey Discovering Aoteraroa Day 1 Week 1 Activity 2

Discovering Aoteraroa [4 Points]

New Zealand believe a person that is named Kupe discovered New Zealand first.  In the year 1300, navigating from Hawaki by using stars and stuff.  342 years later...  There was a person named Abel that thought that he found New Zealand first, not knowing that Maori's were living there.  Them two were also exploring the world.

  1. Ahiahi pai Healy,

My name is Eliza and I’m working as a blog commenter on the Summer Learning Journey this summer. Have you done the Summer Learning Journey before? I’m looking forward to reading your posts and the other bloggers' posts from the Ako Hiko cluster, over the next week and a half! If you want to know more about me, you can check out my blog.
Thanks for writing about the discovery of Aotearoa, I really enjoyed reading it and you’ve put this information into your own words brilliantly!

I’m really interested to know more about you and your family - where does your family come from and what is important or special to you and your family? Are there any special traditions you and your family do? What language(s) do you speak? You can just post this information in the comments below if you'd like!

I am Pākehā but my dad’s family comes from England and my Mum’s family comes from Scotland and Canada, which is pretty cool because it means I can go and live in all of these countries if I want to! My family is quite small and live in many different places, but I have a lot of friends and family friends who are like family to me. The most important thing about my family is that we are really open and honest and have great communication, my parents are also really loving towards me :)

I only speak English but I would love to learn Te Reo Maori and Spanish.

Thanks for posting! I look forward to reading more of your posts :)
    Eliza :)
